Greece is obliged to annually submit verification reports from obliged companies, in the context of its application of the Kyoto Protocol on control of emissions in order limit the greenhouse effect. All Organizations under obligation to submit reports have been entered into the EU Emissions Trading System (EU-ETS) for implementation of European Directive 2009/29/EC (amending Directive 2003/87/EC) on establishing a Greenhouse Gas Emission Trading Scheme, Regulations 600/2012/EU and 601/2012/EU, and decision 278/2011/EC.
Detailed description
Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change has drawn up a National Allocation Plan (NAP), according to which liable Public and Private Organizations are obliged to undergo an annual audit and verification of emission of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, based on their activities.
Based on the National Allocation Plan (NAP), which concerns total emission rights, every business that has been included in this plan is obliged to submit an annual report (by 31 March of each year, for the previous year) to the Emission Trading Rights Office of the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change.
Submission of the verification report requires, by law, verification (and validation) inspection by an Accredited Certification Organization that examines the validity, credibility and accuracy of the monitoring systems and the data and information provided on emissions.
