TÜV AUSTRIA in Greece and the non-profit company “ReHORECA Sustainability System” have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The goal is to promote tangible environmental responsibility through systematic and verified waste management practices in hotel businesses, aiming at a significant reduction of the volume of waste ending up in landfills.

The Memorandum lays the foundation for a strategic and exclusive partnership with the purpose of:

  • Adopting and implementing the private certification standard Zero Waste to Landfill in the Greek hotel market, as a tool for showcasing documented waste flow management practices that divert verified volumes from landfill disposal.
  • Jointly developing of a database for the waste/material streams of hotel businesses participating in the “ReHORECA Sustainability System” initiative, with the aim of evaluating and further linking it to other environmental standards and platforms for disclosing actions and results based on sustainability indicators.
  • Carrying out joint awareness and communication campaigns targeting the industry and the public, regarding the progress and milestones of the collaboration.
  • Establishing an exclusive relationship for the gradual nationwide implementation of verifications and certifications of “ReHORECA Sustainability System” members, based on the Zero Waste to Landfill standard.

The signing of the Memorandum took place at the TÜV AUSTRIA offices, in the presence of Mr. I. Kallias, Country Manager of TÜV AUSTRIA in Greece, Mr. F. Kokotos, Chairman & CEO of ReHORECA Sustainability System, and Mr. K. Mavropoulos, Head of Sustainability & Water related Engineering Division at TÜV AUSTRIA Hellas.
