TÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS, member and approved certification body of the German Association “Verband Lebensmittel ohne Gentechnike.V. – VLOG”, launches a new certification service for products that are produced without the use of GMO procedure (Νon GMO).
This service is for Organizations that produce and process food and food ingredients, who wish to mark their products with the sign “Ohne Gentechnik” or “Ohne Gentechnik”. Organizations that produce animal feed or do animal feed trading who wish to mark their products with the sign “VLOG geprüft” or “VLOG verified” can also benefit from this certification.
The current procedure can apply to products such as meat, milk, eggs, honey, cereals, fruits and vegetables, deriving from primary production (e.g. in animal breeding farms for milk production), to food production and processing as well as to logistics and other services such as milk transfer or animal feed producers.
In order to be marked as “Ohne Gentechnik”, a product must not:
• contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs) or parts of them
• contain vitamins, flavors, enzymes and other food additives which are produced with the help of GMOs
• contain GMO material in feed and strict time limits must be kept if the animals have been fed at some time with feed containing GMOs
In order for a producer to use the specific sign, he must sign a contract with VLOG Organization and must be certified by one of VLOG’s certification bodies, such as TÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS.
On the occasion of this new certification, TÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS’s CEO, Mr. Yiannis Kallias stated: “Our inclusion to VLOG and our derived capability to certify products which are being produced without the use of genetically modified organisms (GMO), confirms our high level services as far as the inspection, control, certification and education in the agri-food sector are concerned. Specifically, in a period where the demand for non GMOs is increasing and food quality issues are always at the center of the consumer’s interest. This capability shows TÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS’s expertise, leadership and innovation in the field of food and agriculture.”
