The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has published the new edition ISO 21001:2025 – Educational Organizations — Management Systems for Educational Organizations, which replaces ISO 21001:2018.

ISO 21001 specifies requirements for Educational Organizations Management Systems and applies to all types of education and training providers, regardless of size, structure or mode of delivery (face‑to‑face, distance or blended learning).

Key changes in ISO 21001:2025

The 2025 edition reflects current developments in the education sector and introduces several important enhancements, including:

  • Stronger focus on learner outcomes and learner satisfaction, linking strategic objectives with measurable performance indicators.
  • Enhanced emphasis on accessibility, inclusion and equity, addressing diverse learner needs and vulnerable groups.
  • Improved integration of digital and blended learning models, supporting the effective use of technology in educational delivery.
  • Reinforced governance, risk‑based thinking and stakeholder engagement, enabling educational organizations to respond more effectively to uncertainty and change.
  • Greater attention to sustainability, social responsibility and continual improvement, aligned with modern international best practices.

Transition arrangements

At present, no official transitional requirements have been issued by the IAF (International Accreditation Forum) regarding the transition from ISO 21001:2018 to ISO 21001:2025.
